Spring is here! Take a hike! Or better yet, a walk. Birds are chirping and cherry blossoms are blooming all over Richmond (walkability score 86). Thus Jason and I have taken full advantage and been squeezing in a short walk nearly every single day, even if it’s literally just around the block.

This is our first spring in RVA, and I’m amazed at the number of parks, green spaces, and trees lining the streets of this small city. I hope these photos capture some of the beauty and sense of renewal that I’ve been feeling lately during these contemplative strolls.

*All photos are taken with my iPhone 13 pro and lightly edited in the Adobe Lightroom phone app.

Love the mix of city infrastructure and the showy encore Azalea.

Walking has innumerable benefits for your general heart and mental health. I am an on-again/off-again runner and sports player with a busy and often physically demanding job. Walking has kept me sane through injuries, tough work days, seasonal depression, writer’s block, and so many other challenges. For a compact breakdown of walking benefits, check out this list from arthritis.org.

Flowering trees and bright historic doors line RVA’s residential streets.
Creeping phlox is a VA native. I’m drawing inspiration from this home’s landscaping to replicate in my front yard.
I love the contrast between the dark and light pansies. These purple ones look jet black.
