Welcome to my submission for Thursday Doors. Thank you to No Facilities for hosting this prompt and giving me a chance to showcase more photos from my trip to Puerto Rico last year.

Here are some of my favorites from around San Juan…

Casa de España

According to Wikipedia, the interior courtyard of Casa de España, founded in 1914, “was used to film two coronation scenes for the Disney movie, ‘Princess Protection Program’.”

Castillo San Cristóbal

Doorway to a spiral staircase leading up to one of the topside observation areas at Castillo San Cristóbal.

There is no shortage of kitties to pet in Puerto Rico, and this one standing guard outside Castillo San Felipe del Morro is no exception.

Near the Free Library on Calle Loíza in Santurce San Juan

Next to this building on Calle Loíza is Libros Libres– a couple hundred crates filled with books (toma uno, deja uno) that line the remainder of the block. There are quite a few of these free libraries scattered around the island.

You can find these recycled doors in the Earthship in Aguada, a self-sustaining community center built in response to Hurricane Maria. My cousin and her family served as volunteers on this project and took me for a private tour.

I think the idea is incredible, but the initial costs, labor, and upkeep have proven a challenge in Puerto Rico. This particular Earthship is not quite up and running, but I believe there are successful Earthship communities in other parts of the world.

Thanks again for tuning in. Hope you enjoyed.

💚Gus

Thank you so much! I’m glad you appreciated them. I’m hoping that maybe I can visit a “fully operational” Earthship sometime in the future and see how things run.

Welcome to Thursday Doors, Gus. You hit it out of the park with these. That first building is a beauty and I love the Earthship shots. Looking forward to more.
